Charles James Inspired Cocktail Dress

This dress was created as a result of my beginners draping class. We were challenged to create a garment that brings vintage styles into modern day masterpieces suitable for current audiences. I was inspired by the work of Charles James, who commonly worked with different fabrics to create peekaboo effects and strange silhouettes. My cocktail design features black ruffles at the side to emphasize an hourglass figure while simultaneously making the wearer want to move. The center of the dress has a bat-wing cutout for a dark yet fun twist on the denim mini-dress.
